Writers' Note : My mom is a Big C (cancer) survivor. As a son, I have seen how this condition hasdramatically changed everything, from the way mom wakes up every morning when her conditon worsens, to the way our family had to deal with how to fight it. If you know someone with this situation, I ask you to be there for her/him they need you, they can't fight this alone.
As a family, we weren't alone , we had friends (and even people we didn't know) who were helping my mom overcome this stage of her life. This month, the world is celebrating Pink October. Yes, pink, a color to remind us of women and to remind us of the deadly condition that threatens them. Last October 1, my mom was invited to attend the "HER2 Breast Cancer Summit" in City Sports Club, Cebu Business Park with a number of breast cancer survivors and their friends.
Although I wasn't at all part of this summit, I received a wall post from Ms. Mary Anne "MeAnne" Alcordo-Solomon, a Breast Cancer Leading Advocate and Cebu coordinator for C-network (a group leading the observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month).
The post she wrote on my Facebook wall is simple but left me teary-eyed. I love my Mom, and it was only then upon reading Tita Mary Anne's wall post, did I learn how happy Mom is to have us as her sons.
Mommy, Billy, Bench. This note's for you, for us, and for everyone to see how much women (be it your mom, your aunt, your grandma, your foster mom, your wife, your partner, yourgirlfriend,or even your women friends) are important.

Bearry de la Serna Arriola :
Hello Tita Mary Anne! Yup, Mom told me about your meeting. This movement that you're leading is really a blessing. Knowing that you're inspiring others to make things better, even if they have such condition, is really amazing. You are the hope these people are looking for.
God definitely made you an instrument to those who are in need. I have always believe thateverything in life, good or bad, is drawn by His hand because He has a greater purpose for us to realize. And I am happy that there are people like you who realized that purpose.
Being with my mom during those hard times made me realize how much I love her and I would do everything just to know that she'd be better. My late father did so much just to keep up with the expenses. And that I could say was the most beautiful example of love.
As I look at mom now, I can't help but thank God every time she smiles.
She would always tell me that she wakes up every morning because of me, my brother Billy and especially to our youngest, Bench. I don't want her to think of her condition, that's why, we'd always look for ways to keep her happy, her personal favorite is listening to Bench's laughs. I couldn't ask God for more, she's been with us and if I'd had the chance, I'd still choose her.
Yes, we are not just living life, we are celebrating every moment of it.
Thank you for this reminder Tita Mary Anne. :)
With you in prayer,
